November 2025: Our feasibility study results are published in Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy.

October 2025: We held a webinar on increasing research capacity in ageing specialty research, bringing together clinicians, researchers and patient representatives to share experiences and perspectives. You can watch the full video here.

September 2025: Sion Scott (CHARMER co-investigator) presented the feasibility study and provided an update on definitive trial progress at the European Geriatric Medicine Society.

April 2025: Debi Bhattacharya (CHARMER Chief Investigator) presented at the British Geriatrics Society about the progress of the trial.

Sion Scott (CHARMER co-investigator) presented at the Royal College of Psychiatrists on deprescribing and intellectual disability, using CHARMER to illustrate intervention design and trial implementation.

September 2024: CHARMER Chief Investigator Debi Bhattacharya presented the Guide to Disseminating Research (GuiDiR) at the 38th Annual Conference of the European Health Psychology Society (EHPS).

We published our research article detailing the development of the Guide to Disseminating Research (GuiDiR) in Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy. Download GuiDiR here.

We also published an article in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society about supporting meaningful participation of older people in core outcome set development.

CHARMER co-investigator Sion Scott presented the Work Package 3 (feasibility process evaluation) findings at the 2nd International Conference on Deprescribing in Nantes, France.

June 2024: CHARMER co-investigator Sion Scott discussed the importance of deprescribing at the 28th Leicester Medical Conference: National Conference in Medicine for the Older Person.

Sion Scott was also awarded the Outstanding Pharmacy Early-Career Researcher Award (OPERA) 2024 from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Sion was selected for his research using behavioural science to facilitate the routine proactive deprescribing of medicines where the risks outweigh their benefits. Read more about the award here.

July 2023: We published our protocol for a feasibility study of a hospital deprescribing behaviour change intervention in BMJ Open.

May 2023: Team members Victoria Keevil and Sion Scott discussed CHARMER progress and the importance of equity relevant trials at the 2023 British Geriatrics Society Spring Meeting Programme in Edinburgh.

April 2023: The team travelled to University of Bradford to present our Work Package 1 (Core Outcome Set) and Work Package 2 (intervention co-design) findings at the 29th Health Services Research and Pharmacy Practice Conference.

CHARMER Chief Investigator Debi Bhattacharya spoke to Medical Update Online (‘In Discussion With’) about deprescribing interventions and why a good understanding of the barriers and enablers to effective deprescribing is needed.

March 2023: We published our research article detailing the development of the CHARMER intervention in Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy. We also published our article describing how to develop and test complex behaviour change interventions to support proactive deprescribing in Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology.

November 2022: We published our Core Outcome Set for deprescribing trials in Age and Ageing. You can also read a (plain language) summary of the findings here. This includes the key things to measure when undertaking any deprescribing initiative.

October 2022: CHARMER Chief Investigator Debi Bhattacharya gave a talk at the Westminster Health Forum on how we can harness behavioural science to tackle overprescribing in the NHS. You can read a summary of the key messages from the talk here.

September 2022: The team flew to Denmark to present our Work Package 1 (Core Outcome Set), Work Package 2 (intervention co-design) and Work Package 3 (feasibility study design) findings at the 1st International Conference on Deprescribing.
